In the Dominican Republic, the high rates of child labour, physical abuse, and commercial sexual exploitation of children between the ages of 6 and 12 indicate the difficulties children face on a daily basis. Data suggests that 42% of all children forced to enter the workforce do so before the age of 10. The earlier children begin working, the less likely they will be to attend school and the more likely they will find themselves in dangerous situations. Youth in the Dominican Republic can find a sense of social support in gangs especially the youth who are living in poverty. Many live without access to running water, proper sanitation and electricity. Over 20% of the population lives on less than two dollars a day.

By becoming a member of Holt’s All-Star Team, you can help our children and youth beat the odds. While attending Holt’s House of Hope,  we work to break the cultural cycle by providing Biblical, educational, and vocational training.

Hot Meals

The boys come to Holt’s House three times a week and enjoy a hot meal each time they attend.

Attendance Rewards

Prior to coming to Holt’s House, many of the boys were not able to attend school. In Boca Chica, most schools require students to purchase uniforms and supplies in order to come to school. Due to the financial burdens, children are often forced to stay home. However, through the ministry at Holt’s House, most boys are attending school on a regular basis. The boys with perfect attendance are taken on monthly outings to celebrate their accomplishments.

Outdoor Activities

The boys enjoy participating in outdoor activities including recreation, gardening, and projects around the facitility.
